Happy Holiday!

In recognition of Independence Day, the Adams Morgan Partnership BID offices will be closed on Monday July 3 and Tuesday July 4. We will reopen on July 5 for regular business hours. Please have a safe and happy holiday.

Reminder: AMPBID Board meeting July 11
The next Adams Morgan Partnership BID (AMPBID) Board of Directors' meeting will be Tuesday, July 11 at 5 PM at the Festival Center at 1640 Columbia Road, NW.  Hope you can join us!
We will have an update from organizers of this year's Adams Morgan Day festival. We will also continue discussion about the upcoming year's budget.

Commercial Waste Compactor Pilot Program

DSLBD is soliciting applications from eligible DC business owners for the Commercial Waste Compactor Pilot Program grants, which is funded by the Department of Public Works (DPW).

Eligible DC business owners may use this grant to purchase or lease compactors to collect and compact bulk trash and other waste including recyclables. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis begining June 30, 2017. The submission deadline is Friday, September 8, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.

The Adams Morgan BID will host an information session at our offices later this summer. Details will be announced in a future edition of this newsletter.

The Commercial Waste Compactor Pilot Program comprises of:

  • grants to offset compactor costs, which is funded by the Department of Public Works (DPW), administered by DSLBD and managed by a grants manager; and
  • business owner education and impact metrics measurement of rodent activity and sanitation violations through a partnership with Department of Health (DOH)’s Rat Riddance Initiative.

Through the installation of commercial waste compactors and the education of business and property owners, DPW, DSLBD, and DOH seek to reduce:

  • the likelihood of accidental pollution through spills or wind-blown debris
  • rodent activity near businesses and
  • the number of trips to haul waste.

In doing so, the Program will support the Sustainable DC goals to minimize the generation of greenhouse gas emissions and reduce the volume of waste disposed.

The market is open on Saturdays through December 23 at 18th Street and Columbia Road, 8:00am - 1:00pm, rain or shine, featuring the Licking Creek Bend Farm, Star Hollow Farm, Remi's Flowers and Plants, Girardot's Crumbs Bakery, and Groff's Content Farm (meats and cheeses).

Participate in Congresswoman Norton's Annual Job and Opportunity Fair

On August 2, 2017, Congresswoman Norton will host her Annual Job and Opportunity Fair at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center from 10:00 am‐3:00 pm.

Summer Youth Employment Program needs employer host sites and staff

The Marion S. Barry, Jr. Summer Youth Employment Program (MBSYEP) is in need of employer host sites and host staff to provide enriching and constructive summer work experiences for District youth ages 14 to 24 years of age. MBSYEP is a locally funded initiative administered by the Department of Employment Services (DOES) that provides subsidized placements in the private and government sectors.

MBSYEP strives to provide young people with the opportunity to

  • Earn money and gain meaningful work experience;
  • Learn and develop the skills, attitude, and commitment necessary to succeed in today’s world of work;
  • Gain exposure to various career industries; and
  • Interact with dynamic working professionals in a positive work environment.

Employers in the Washington, DC metropolitan area make this annual program possible by volunteering to serve as Host Employers and providing structured job opportunities for youth during the summer.
