Board of Directors Election Results
|
Voting for the Board of Directors for the Adams Morgan Partnership BID (AMPBID) took place starting concurrently with our annual meeting on Tuesday, March 9 at 5pm, and continued until 5pm on Thursday, March 11.
The two business owners whose seats were up this year, Saied Azali (Mintwood Place and Perry's) and Jonathan Cho (BUL and Sakuramen) were both reelected.
Also reelected were property owners Brian Friedman and Jeffrey Schonberger.
Additionally, we have three brand new board members to welcome: Jim Ball, Wendy Hauenstein, and Cindy Sanchez.
Congratulations to all of our newly elected and reelected board members.
Our next board meeting will be on Tuesday, April 13 at 5pm where board members will vote on the executive committee.

Cherry Blossom Season is Here!
|
The Adams Morgan Partnership BID is excited to partner with the
National Cherry Blossom Festival
and host a one-of-a-kind, giant cherry blossom sculpture in Adams Morgan! The five foot tall, 1,200 pound sculpture is called “Community Grid” is now located in BB&T Plaza at 1801 Adams Mill Rd NW. The sculpture was designed by local artists My Ly (
@mylydesign
) and Jaclyn Stallard (
@jstallard
). It's one of 26 sculptures that will be installed throughout DC, Virginia, and Maryland as part of
Art in Bloom
, a public art exhibition in celebration of the National Cherry Blossom Festival.
We encourage you to go on a “Blossom Hunt” - starting in Adams Morgan and making your way around DC to find each sculpture. In addition to the life-size cherry blossom sculpture, our neighborhood is fully decked out with cherry blossom decals to help celebrate the season and the joy that this beloved tradition brings to our city each year.

Transportation Roundtable, Including Streateries

On Monday, Mayor Bowser announced minimal lifting of restrictions on restaurants, which includes the
extension of the on premise alcohol cap from 10pm to midnight, starting March 22nd
. Restaurants must close by midnight but alcohol can continue to be sold until midnight, closing time. She unfortunately did not announce an increase of dining capacity beyond the 25% limit or 250 people, whichever is less, but said that this will be revisited on April 5th. Standing at the bar area is still prohibited, and diners can only be seated at the bar if the area is not being used to prepare drinks. Today’s announcement also included the potential for conditional reopening of live entertainment, and venues are encouraged to apply for a waiver from HSEMA.

. Finally, indoor gatherings remain limited to 10 people, but outdoor gatherings can increase to 50 people also starting 3/22. Click here for today’s Situational Update.
We are extremely frustrated by the city’s approach on indoor dining capacity, especially as we have been advocating nonstop for restrictions to be lifted to match what is not only happening across the country, but across our region. In relation to other states and jurisdictions across the country, we are drastically behind in terms of reopening and every state and major city across the country is either at AT LEAST 50% capacity or is slated to increase to that by this time next week (this includes NYC, New Jersey, Nevada, Chicago, and Washington State). To be frank, this decision by the city makes little sense to us, especially because the Department of Health has not provided meaningful context as to why these strict restrictions are still necessary as case numbers remain contained, vaccinations continue to increase and science nor data seem to suggest that cases are directly linked to indoor dining.
One positive in DC, the city has now opened up
registration to all of Phase 1B Tier 3 and Phase 1C Tier 1, to include foodservice workers

or by calling 1-855-363-0333. For those who have pre-registered you may start receiving appointment invitations beginning THIS Thursday 3/18. The City will release appointments going forward on Thursdays and Sundays at 10:00 AM to those eligible and pre-registered. If those appointments are not all filled, additional invitations will be sent Tuesdays at 10:00am. Please encourage all who have pre-registered to regularly check their SPAM folders to ensure they don’t miss the invitation.

employment verification
: As we previously mentioned, when pre-registering for the vaccine online, you will see this noted: “If you selected any of the above work settings, you must bring verification to your appointment (work ID badge, letter from your employer, copy of provider license, pay stub or other means of verification).” Click here for a template letter that you can customize for your employees to help verify that they work at your establishment.
On
Federal Relief and the Restaurant Revitalization Fund (RRF)
, we are receiving feedback that the Small Business Administration is dedicated to getting dollars out the door to restaurants as quickly as possible and with as few barriers as possible. There is some uncertainty about what the application process will look like at this point, and if a DUNS and SAMS number will be required, which is what we previously shared. We are hearing mixed answers, but there is no harm in getting a DUNS and SAMS number at this point. The National Restaurant Association covered this process at length in their webinar, so

Registration is Open for Bike To Work Day 2021
|
The Washington, DC region’s 20th Anniversary Bike to Work Day is returning this year on
Friday, May 21, 2021
.
Due to COVID, things will be a bit different this year. Registrants will have to register for a specific 30 minute time slot and only 30 riders will be allowed to register for each slot, so total registration will be strictly limited. To help accommodate this, we're extending our pit stop hours -- the Adams Morgan Pit Stop will be open from 7:30am to 11:00am at Unity Park (in front of The LINE Hotel DC, corner of Columbia Rd. and Champlain St., NW).
Due to the COVID restrictions this year we won't be able to host any on-site activities, but we're planning on having some good giveaways, so stay tuned for more details.

New Grant Opportunity from NCRC --

|
The
National Community Reinvestment Coalition
(NCRC) and the
Stavros Niarchos Foundation
(SNF) announced the launch of a major new initiative, the SNF Small Business Growth & Recovery Fund. The fund’s mission is to help U.S. small businesses, focusing on those owned by people of color, women and veterans as well as those in lower-income communities, find their footing in an acutely challenging economic landscape. The fund’s vision is both short- and long-term. It aims to help small businesses that have been severely impacted by the pandemic stabilize, and at the same time seeks to assist in building a more inclusive economy.
Striving to help address economic inequities, the fund will support U.S. small businesses, focusing on those owned by traditionally underserved groups by providing better access to capital through grants that do not need to be repaid.
The SNF Small Business Growth & Recovery Fund grant program, which will open with $1.3 million, will award U.S.-based small businesses with up to $20,000 each in non-repayable grants, accompanied by complementary training and mentorship to support them. The initiative will be managed through Equivico by NCRC.

Murals DC: Request for Qualifications
|
The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (CAH), in partnership with the DC Department of Public Works (DPW), seeks graffiti and aerosol mural artists and artist teams to design, create and install aerosol murals as part of the MuralsDC program. Selected artists will be expected to engage in a guided component of the program with designated youth (ages 14-18) to help them understand the art of aerosol graffiti mural painting and provide youth with opportunities to assist in activities such as site preparation and mural outlining.
Applicants may submit one (1) MuralsDC qualification application per fiscal year. Multiple awards may be made under this RFQ. Award amounts vary from $2,500 - $20,000.
