No Parking Signs in the 2400 block of 18th Street for a film project

We have talked to the DC Motion Picture qand Television Development (MPTD) office about the Emergency No Parking signs posted today on the east and west side of the 2400 Block of 18th Street, NW.

The signs were posted incorrectly.

The correct permit # is PA10137241 NOT PA10137554. The filming will not happen on April 23rd and 24th from 3:30 to 9:30 pm but instead only on April 24th from 7 am to 6 pm and ONLY on the west side of the 2400 block of 18th Street NOT the east side. All no parking signs should be removed from the east side. The film crew will be working on a promotion piece fo HBOs VEEP. For more information please call:

In 2013, The DC Office of Motion Picture and Television Development (MPTD) launched “ DC Reel-Crew ”, a new online tool that will enable the district's film industry workforce and support service companies to showcase their skills and services to producers considering filming in the city. DC Reel-Crew is part of the Reelscout platform, an online software utility created expressly for film offices to provide state-of-the-art location management and location scouting assistance. MPTD is of the first film offices in our region to introduce this feature.

The new DC Reel-Crew feature gives MPTD the ability to effectively track, manage, and promote local crew and local businesses that provide production support services for film, television, and new media production companies seeking to film on location here in the District of Columbia. District residents with demonstrated production crew experience can go online today and register their information into this database free of charge.

To register, District residents and businesses must go to the DC Reel-Crew page, select “register now” and follow the prompts to enter basic information about themselves or their company and list their skills and services. Once the information is entered, incoming productions can identify local residents that can be hired to work on productions, serving in essence, as an online production guide or directory.

ReelScout has become the “gold standard” of location application software, and is currently used by more than 60 film offices and commissions in the United States. New features available to the public through this tool include location specifications, mapping, and key word searching capabilities.

Sandwich Board sign reminder

Now that spring is finally here.... a quick reminder from DDOT about the placement of A-Frame/Sandwich board signs or other portable signage in public space.

When placed appropriately the signs are an important element of a business' exposure to clients and potential customers. When placed inappropriately they create a hazard for pedestrians and the traveling public and can damage or impede access to elements in the public space such as bike racks.

The guidelines below are based on the DC Municipal Regulations that, when followed, should balance public safety and access with the promotion of commercial activity in DC.

1) Placement of A-frame or sandwich board or other portable signs must be consistent with the display of merchandise in public space governed by DC Municipal Regulations (DCMR) 24-112.

2) This regulation authorizes the display of merchandise within three feet (3') of the face of a building.

3) The sign should not have a footprint more than three feet by three feet (3 ft.x 3 ft.).

4) The allowance of three feet (3') from the face of the building not withstanding, the sign should not at any time reduce the pedestrian walkway to a clear unobstructed width of less than eight feet (8 ft) in the Central Business District and six feet (6 ft) in all other areas of the District.

Failure to follow these guidelines is considered a public space violation. A warning of infraction will be issued for the first instance. A notice of violation will be issued, with associated fines, for instances after the warning of infraction.

Obstructing public space without a permit (DCMR 24-2001.2)

First Violation within 60-day period $75.00

Second Violation within 60-day period $150.00

Third Violation within 60-day period $300.00

Questions:

1) What if the b usiness has a sidewalk cafe/public space permit? Where should the sign g o? Matthew said the sign needs to be inside the sidewalk café space. Since the business is already ‘paying for use of that space’ the sign should be inside of there.

2) The a-frame/sandwich board sign rules also apply to other ‘displays of merchandise’ such as clothing, furniture, books, etc...same rules apply.
3) Adams Morgan is NOT in the Central Business District.
4) Permits are NOT required for the signs or other displays of merchandise. Everyone can have one. The signs are completely legal if placed in the correct place.

Movie Nights at Marie Reed Field with PTA - May 20, June 10 and June 24th

Community film series have been enthusiastically supported across the city, and the Adams Morgan Partnership BID is excited about presenting one here with the Marie Reed PTA.

Adams Morgan Movie Nights will be held at the new soccer field next to the Marie Reed Elementary School at 2201 18th Street, NW, corner of 18th and California Streets, NW and will be a family friendly way to bring the community together, broaden the perception of what Adams Morgan has to offer and will benefit residents and businesses alike.

The recent upgrades to the site, including hillside seating, make this one of the best neighborhood screening locations in the city. This season’s series will include a range of award winning films with an emphasis on classic and/or animated features.

The movies will be:

Tuesday May 20th at dusk : (as choosen by the Prince of Petworth poll)

Up - “By tying thousands of balloons to his home, 78-year-old Carl sets out to fulfill his lifelong dream to see the wilds of South America. Russell, a wilderness explorer 70 years younger, inadvertently becomes a stowaway.”

Tuesday, June 10th at dusk : All the President’s Men - “Reporters Woodward and Bernstein uncover the details of the Watergate scandal that leads to President Nixon’s resignation.”

Tuesday, June 24th at dusk : Rushmore - “The king of Rushmore prep school is put on academic probation.”

The Adams Morgan Partnership BID is organizing this series along with the Marie Reed Elementary School Parent Teacher Association, which will be selling refreshments at the event to raise funds for the school.

The Adams Morgan Movie Series is a great chance for you to promote your business leading up to the summer months. We'll be offering Adams Morgan swag bags at each showing (depending on availability) with promo items (coupons/flyers/freebies).

The 6th Annual Adams Morgan Summer Concert Series begins on Saturday May 3rd at 5 pm!

There will be another fantastic line up of bands playing in the BB&T Plaza at Columbia Road and Adams Mill Road for six Saturdays in May and June from 5 to 7 pm (May 3, May 17th, May 31, June 7, June 21 and June 28).

Registration is now open for BTWD - May 16th, 2014/Adams Morgan pit stop

Bike to Work Day 2014 - May 16th

On Friday May 16, 2014 Commuter Connections and, Adams Morgan non-profit, the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) invites you to join over 10,000 area commuters for a celebration of bicycling as a clean, fun, and healthy way to get to work. Attend one of 79 pit stops throughout D.C., Maryland, and Virginia to receive refreshments, and be entered into a raffle for bicycles being given away. Free T-shirts available at pit stops to the first 14,000 who register and attend.

We have partnered with City Bikes for our Adams Morgan pit stop again. They will be donating a bike for the raffle and will have their very popular bike clinic too. Lunar Massage will be on hand passing out power bars for cyclists.
