After the year we've been through we all need a little extra holiday spirit, so this year we're stepping up our holiday game. In addition to decorating the kiosk at Columbia Rd. and Adams Mill Rd. again, we've decorated streetlights around the neighborhood and constructed an interactive,
Instagramable holiday display
in BB&T Bank Plaza.
Also, enjoy masked holiday caroling from a safe distance at BB&T Bank Plaza on the following dates (weather permitting):

Bridge Fund applications for restaurants now open, retail applications open on Monday
|
Applications
opened for the Restaurant Bridge Fund opened on Monday. The fund aims to provide competitive grants to eligible restaurant and food services establishments that have experienced significant economic distress due to the COVID-19 public health emergency and made plans to respond and adapt to these challenging circumstances. DMPED is hosting three Restaurant Bridge Fund Information Sessions on Thursday, December 10 at 1 pm, and Friday, December 11 at 11 am.

The application will be open for three (3) weeks, and closes on Monday, December 28, 2020 at 5:00 PM/ET.
Who is eligible?
Full-service restaurants, including limited-service restaurants, fast food restaurants, and food service providers such as bars and taverns with a tavern license, wineries, breweries and distilleries with a tavern license, bakeries, cafes, delicatessens, coffee shops, vending trucks or carts, food trucks, caterers, food courts, and cafeterias would be eligible to apply.

What will the funds support?
The funds will support general operational expenses (rent/mortgage/docking expense, payroll, insurance, fuel for mobile vendors, and/or utilities), and expenses incurred related to winterization or COVID-19 preparation.
How many businesses will receive the award?
The Restaurant Fund will award at least 700 grants for eligible businesses with consideration to economic distress, business viability, length of revenue generating operations, and District resident employment. Additionally, 15% of the funds ($5.25M) will be set aside for businesses that are eligible to be a Resident-Owned Business (ROB) and Small Business Enterprise (SBE); and at least one of the following: at least 51% owned by economically disadvantaged individuals OR at least 51% owned by a woman or a majority of women. Owners of multiple businesses may apply for each business separately, as long as each business has a separate EIN, up to a maximum of 5 businesses.

Robust Retail Grant Applications Open
|
DSLBD has opened
applications for their 2021 Robust Retail Grant
.
The deadline to apply is January 28, 2021 at 2 pm
. The purpose of the grant is to support existing DC-based retail businesses maintaining operations and viability during the current small business crisis.
How will grants be awarded, and for how much?
DSLBD intends to award up to $7,500 per business to 106 businesses from the total $800,000 in available funding for Fiscal Year 2021. This grant will be operated as a reimbursement grant, awarded via lottery, to DC retail businesses that have met all eligibility requirements by the final deadline.

"Shop in the District" promotes shopping safely at small local retailers
|
Attention restaurants and retailers in Adams Morgan:
Shop in the District
is a new initiative by
DC's Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development
and
Washington DC Economic Partnership
, aimed at promoting shopping safely at small local retailers throughout the city, especially during the upcoming holiday season. The
website
will connect consumers directly with local retailers (searchable by neighborhood or product type) and will feature gift guides curated by local DC celebrities. The site will be heavily advertised and promoted through all available channels over the next 2 months. They have also partnered with
NEAR.delivery
to offer free delivery services (as early as same-day) to deliver orders to DC residents through the holiday season.

Streatery Winter Ready Grant Program Deadline Extended
|
In order to alleviate the concern about grant recipients not being able to exhaust grant funds by November 30, 2020, The Mayor's Office of Nightlife and Culture has extended the deadline to use funds until December 12, 2020.

Ask Congress for Transit Relief for the DC region

WMATA is facing dramatic budget reductions due to the pandemic, which means
severe cuts to services
in the next couple of years that could slow down economic and social recovery.

to reach out to Congress and to tell them restaurants need relief NOW. On the local front, restaurateur Derek Brown along with the Independent Restaurant Coalition organized a demonstration earlier this week that involved local restaurants - many of you - placing thousands of plates on the lawn in front of the Capitol to send a visual message to Congress. Each plate represented a member of the restaurant workforce whose job was affected by the pandemic, where Federal support could make a meaningful difference. Everyone’s LOUD voice is needed here. The demonstration yesterday garnered public attention, and we are hopeful that all of this combined action will result in much needed relief for our industry.
Earlier this week, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that the city will make one-time stimulus payments of $1,200 to residents receiving Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA). The federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program is for DC residents who do not qualify for traditional unemployment insurance benefits, including gig workers, self-employed residents and contractors. Those who filed for the PUA program by Nov. 30 are eligible for the DC stimulus payments. They will be distributed in the same manner recipients have previously received PUA benefits and no additional application process is necessary. DOES said payments will be issued in the next few weeks.
Also as a reminder, on Monday, December 14th the capacity for indoor dining in DC will be decreased to 25%
, and outdoor capacity remains unchanged. The 25% capacity limit applies to your Certificate of Occupancy for indoor dining. If you offer outdoor dining and you have two or more flaps of a tent or canopy down the space is considered indoors, and the 25% capacity limit applies to the capacity limit of the tented space.
There has been a lot of conversation regarding vaccines, distribution and prioritization regionally and nationally. DC, Maryland and Virginia will receive shipments of their first doses of the Pfizer vaccine by mid-December. Bowser, Northam and Hogan have said that health care workers will be vaccinated first. We are encouraging local leaders to continue to support the restaurant and foodservice industry, and to consider prioritizing restaurant workers, and deeming them essential workers so they have earlier access to the vaccine.

Private Security Camera System Incentive Program
|
The
Private Security Camera Incentive Program
, administered by the Office of Victim Services and Justice Grants, encourages residents, businesses, non-profits and religious institutions to install security camera systems on their property and register them with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). This program is intended to help deter crime and assist law enforcement with investigations.
There are two ways to participate:
The
Private Security Camera Rebate Program
creates a rebate for residents, businesses, nonprofits, and religious institutions to purchase and install security camera systems on their property and register them with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). The program provides a rebate of up to $200 per camera, with a maximum rebate of up to $500 per residential address (e.g., home offices, condo buildings, and apartments) and $750 for all other eligible addresses. The rebate is exclusively for the cost of the camera(s) including any applicable tax.
The
Private Security Camera Voucher Program
provides a private security camera system to eligible residents free of charge. District residents—either owners or tenants—who receive public assistance may be eligible to have a camera system installed at their home.

Capital COVID Survey: Planning for the Return to Worksites

The Capital Region needs your
feedback
to safely reopen.
In August, the first Capital COVID Survey was conducted to better understand how organizations were planning to reopen worksites. A coalition of public agencies, leading employers, business organizations, and non-profits is collaborating on a second edition of the Capital COVID Survey designed to provide an updated snapshot on the state of the region’s reopening plans and what factors most influence employers' decisions. This second round of the survey encompasses all of the Capital Region, from Baltimore, Maryland to Richmond, Virginia.
