2) New Business Opened: Hudson and Crane

A new funiture showroom, Hudson & Crane, opened last week a t 1781 Florida Ave. NW (suite E). They are a purveyor of modern/contemporary housewares, furniture, gifts, lifestyle items, and more.They offer a
variety of furnishings, decor, art, lighting, soft goods and gift items. Curated with an eye for accessible design and style, the store inventory will be constantly updated with new offerings continually. Nearly all of the store inventory will be offered as cash & carry, allowing customers the instant gratification of being able to purchase a piece of furniture and take it home the same day, and we will of course offer affordable and fast delivery.
Their hours of operation are Tuesday through Sunday by 11am until at least 7 pm. They are really excited to have been featured this week in online publications like Urban Daddy and SoshDC , also the DC community blog PoPville before our official opening last week, which are already bringing people into the shop.

3) Roofers Union's upcoming events

Roofers Union at 2446 18th Street, NW is hosting 16 local breweries (all DC/MD/VA) for an Ugly Sweater Holiday Party on Wednesday December 10th.  Live Music.  Best of all, it will benefit Mary's Center.  If guests bring a toy or donation, Roofers Union will buy the first beer per person!  They will also be giving out awards for the Best (defined as ugliest/tackiest) Sweater, Tie, Socks, and Mystery TBD category (They will know it when they see it).
Additionally, they have started offering Wine Wednesdays and Family Night on Thursdays:

5) DDOT Construction in the 1600 block of Columbia Road, NW

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will commence repair work as part of the Americans with Disability Act Compliance Project on the 1600 block of Columbia Rd. NW on December 1, 2014.

Construction is scheduled to last about ten days, weather and construction conditions permitting.  The purpose of the repair work is to ensure that people with disabilities can access sidewalks and bus stops.  It will include repair to sidewalks, curb and gutter, driveways, and installing wheelchair ramps.

The Contractor is authorized to work during the hours of 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, Monday through Saturday.  There will be no work at night.

If deemed necessary, Parking Restriction signs will be posted at least 72 hours in advance, at locations where parking will not be allowed.  These signs will notify the dates and duration of “No Parking,” and contact information of the Project Engineer.

On January 7, 2015, Holland and Knight will be hosting a program entitled, New Year, New District - How the District of Columbia 2014 Elections May Affect Your Business .

The 2014 election results in the District of Columbia will impact the way businesses and residents successfully work with the new government leaders in the Office of the Mayor, Council of the District of Columbia, Office of the District of Columbia Chief Financial Officer and the Office of the Attorney General.

Small Business Summit III - December 12, 2014

Andrew Altman will serve as the keynote speaker of the upcoming “Small Business and Economic Development Summit III” taking place on December 12, 2014.

Councilmember Vincent Orange, (At-Large, D), Chair of the Committee on Business, Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, and Councilmember and Mayor-elect Muriel Bowser, Chair of the Economic Development Committee are hosting the event which brings together District business leaders and small business owners.

Mr. Altman served as the Chief Executive of the Olympic Park Legacy Company (recently renamed the London Legacy Development Corporation) from 2009 until 2012 where he was responsible for the transformation of the 500-acre London 2012 Olympic Park into a new urban neighborhood for East London. Mr. Altman also served under Washington, D.C., Mayor Anthony Williams for five years as the city's planning director as well being appointed the first President and Chief Executive Officer of the Anacostia Waterfront Corporation.

The “Small Business and Economic Development Summit III” will begin the morning of December 12, 2014 at 7:30 A.M. with a breakfast at The Hamilton Restaurant, 600 14th Street NW Washington, DC, 20005. Panel sessions will take place from 9:30 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. and 2:00 P.M. to 5:30 P.M. at the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC 20004. At 12:15 P.M., lunch will also be served at The Hamilton Restaurant where Andrew Altman will serve as the keynote speaker.

The forecast for Saturday, Dec 6th is rain, BUT WE WILL BE THERE!!!

We'll have plenty of APPLES, GREENS from our farm, CARROTS, BROCCOLI, APPLE CIDER and other fall goodies.  Hope you'll come out!

We'll also be bringing our CHRISTMAS TREES, ROPING and WREATHS from the farm.  If you haven't ordered, we usually bring extras so come and see what we have.  Order ahead of time to be sure you get the tree you want for next week (Dec 13) and up until Dec 20th.  Dec. 20th is our last market of the season and you can still get Christmas Trees.

Because of the forecast, we ask those of you who have ordered a tree to come by 11:00am, so we can close a bit early.

If you'd like to order a tree, roping and/or wreath, we need that order by Monday of each week.  Michael goes to the farm on Mondays and he and Justin cut the trees and they come down Thursday afternoons.  Then we take Friday to unload and tag the trees, so they are ready for the Saturday market.  Below is the flyer that describes the trees we have and how to order.  We will have the flyers at the market also.

SPECIAL THINK LOCAL FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT
Think Local First DC is launching an exciting new program in January.
Recently signed as a Resolution passed by the DC City Council, Think Local First is announcing 2015: The Year of the Local. This yearlong campaign will highlight the local economy, emerging markets and community leaders in DC, as well as, publicly celebrate the vibrant local business culture.
In order to build and support a healthy DC economy, Think Local First must first build a stronger network and membership to represent, so all voices can be heard.
We are doing a membership drive at $25 for every member in 2015.
