The Adams Morgan BID will be collecting Christmas trees from parts of Adams Morgan on Mondays and Wednesdays starting on January 22

This is an update to earlier information that was inaccurate.

Also, please note that the AMPBID Clean Team effort is in addition to DPW's Christmas tree collection (see below).

The AMPBID team will be collecting Christmas trees from side streets adjacent to the main business district in Adams Morgan on Mondays and Wednesdays starting Monday, January 22, and then will be bringing them to 18th St. and to Columbia Rd. for DPW to collect them. The areas the BID Clean Team will be covering include side streets 1 block off either side of Columbia Rd. between Mozart and 19th Street, and side streets 1 block off of either side of 18th Street between Columbia Rd. and Florida Ave. There will be no pickup by our team on Calvert Street. For AMPBID Clean Team pickup, residents should put their trees out on the curb early on Mondays and Wednesdays and we will work with the drivers to minimize time the trees are on the ground.

Tree collection from DPW

Beginning next week, the DC Department of Public Works (DPW) will be picking up Christmas trees and holiday greenery throughout the District. Trees will be collected on your regularly scheduled recycling collection days through February 2. Trees and greenery should be placed next to your blue recycling bins—not at the curb, unless that’s where your recyclables are normally collected. This is a change from previous years. For many residents, trees and greenery will be picked up in alleys, where their recyclables are normally collected.

Because the first week of holiday tree and greenery collections coincides with Martin Luther King Jr. Day, all recycling days will slide to the next day (i.e. Monday becomes Tuesday, Friday becomes Saturday, etc.).

This collection service is only available to residents who are serviced by DPW. DPW collects trash and recyclables from single-family homes and apartment/condo buildings with three or fewer living units. Residents living in larger apartment and condo buildings will need to contact their building management.

All DC residents also have the option of bringing their holiday trees and greenery to either of the District’s transfer stations. The Fort Totten Transfer Station is located at 4900 John F. McCormack Drive, NE, and is open Monday—Friday from 1pm—5pm and on Saturdays 8am—3pm. The Benning Road Transfer Station is located at 3200 Benning Road, NE, and is open Monday—Friday from 1pm—4:30pm. Trees and greenery brought to either of the transfer stations, along with those collected by DPW, will be composted.

Whichever option residents choose to dispose of their trees, all ornaments and lights should be removed, and the trees and greenery should not be bagged. If your tree has not been collected by February 2, please call 311.

In 2018 the National Cherry Blossom Festival will collaborate with local businesses for our First Annual Window Design Competition.

Inspired by the holiday window displays in New York, the NCBF competition will have a distinctively DC feel using the theme DC in Springtime. The competition celebrates what makes local business great by highlighting the creativity of the stores and encouraging Washingtonians to check out these over-the-top displays.

Why should you participate?

Increased Exposure

NCBF will promote participating businesses with behind the scenes photos, offering a sneak peek at their creative processes
The grand prize winner(s) will be promoted via the NCBF dedicated news post on the website homepage, social media, marketing collateral
Photos will be submitted for possible editorial inclusion in local publications
Increased Foot Traffic
During the competition, photos of the displays will be featured on the NCBF social media channels and website – encouraging local and international followers to visit the stores
An additional 1.5 million people, who visit DC throughout the Festival, will be encouraged to stop by the stores

New at The LINE DC: Urban Athletic Club

Greetings, Adams Morgan! Graham King here, owner of Urban Athletic Club. We're the company managing fitness and wellness at The LINE Hotel. You might remember me as a former AdMo Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner. Or you might remember the cleanups I helped organize to beautify our neighborhood.

In 2013, I created Urban Athletic Club, starting with a space in Glover and recently in Shaw. Opening a gym in Adams Morgan is a "coming home" for me.

Like the hotel, the Club is in preview mode. This Saturday we're hosting a free community class at 10 am.
