Tryst Belgian Beer Tap Takeover!
To celebrate the days leading up to Belgian National Day,
Tryst
will be featuring several highly limited beers from American breweries, inspired by Belgian tradition.
Head Bartendar and "Beer dude", Brett Robison is bringing out some rare ever-creative Belgian-style beers from respected US breweries. All beers, draft and bottle will be 33% off during the kickoff celebration on Friday, July 19, 2013 from 7PM to close. For beer geeks, they are outside of their release dates, Robison has been stowing them away for this special event; this is a huge opportunity to try beers that no one in DC has.
The final list of draft beers to tap that night include the following: Allagash Confluence, Goose Island Sofie Paradisi, New Belgium Paardebloem, Epic Brainless IPA, Jolly Pumpkin IO Saison, and Ommegang Gnomegang. Beer geeks will know that this is a big deal. Only July 19th, not only will local beer nerds (and the uninitiated) be able to experience these rare brews.
While this is a special event, Tryst always has six taps that skew American and always feature at least one nitro beer, one cider, one hoppy beer, one 'light' beer (light as in delicate, not as in 'lite'), and one 'special' beer that defies categorization. Every week, Tryst highlights a new draft beer, which you can snag for $4 a pop from 4-7, Sunday through Friday. In addition, Tryst now features a weekly Belgian-style beer happy hour every Friday night from 7 onwards. Every Friday all Belgian-style bottles are 33% off, bringing the price point down to a truly accessible level.
Tryst is well-known as a bustling watering hole to many DC residents and Adams Morgan locals. Tryst has been in the neighborhood since 1998, and has given Washingtonians an opportunity to come together over a truly great cup of coffee, enjoy some light café fare, and even try a craft cocktail…all in the same visit. Tryst strives to be the community's ‘third place’ to go, next to work and home-- where you can escape the stresses of everyday responsibilities but still connect to your local community and the outside world.
Tryst is located at 2459 18th Street NW, Washington, DC. For further information about Tryst, please phone 202-232-5500 or visit

DDOT is developing a Freight Plan and needs your help
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is currently in the process of developing a Freight Plan for Washington, DC. In 2012 Congress passed MAP -21, which gives special emphasis to state and local freight plans. This past week, we attended a kick-off meeting with DDOT where they outlined their specific timeline for the project, goals, and process for designing the Freight Plan within the next few months.
This Freight Plan examines issues surrounding freight transportation, considering the multiple types of freight transportation, used in the DC area. DDOT has identified four types of freight segments that are utilized in DC: freight truck, freight rail, water (only used for petroleum and trash), and air-freight. In addition, this plan will address the current problems with each of these methods. DDOT hopes to examine the impact of the Freight Plan will have on economic growth in general, but specifically as it relates to our DC communities, neighborhoods, and industries. The Freight Plan is expected to be published and distributed at the end of January 2014.
A couple of interesting facts about freight in DC:
1. The number one commodity by weight within DC is wet, ready-mix concrete. What does that tell you about development and new construction?
2. The third heaviest is textile scrap or sweepings!
As stakeholders in the Freight Plan, DDOT is interested in your feedback and opinions. In the upcoming months, there will be public forums designed to gather stakeholder feedback regarding DC freight. However, in addition to this, DDOT has submitted a series of questions regarding freight in Washington DC.
Please give your honest feedback as an Adams Morgan business or commercial property owner to the questions below and email your answers to Kristen at
Kbarden@adamsmorganonline.org.
Freight Flow:
1. What are the freight segments and challenges unique to those segments? (e.g. agriculture, office products, parcel delivery, merchandise (food and beverage and dry goods), fuel, etc...)
2. What has and has not worked in the past? (what attempts, if any, have been made to address those challenges?)
3. Has anything changed that would give a different outcome in the future? What? Why? (What do you think can be done to address the freight fchallenges experienced by the respective segments?)
Economic Development:
1. How is the economic development in DC evolving? (Are the markets changing and new businesses coming to life while others are reaching their end?)
2. Does the current freight system help or hinder evolution? If so, how?
3. What are the potential short term and long-term freight movement solutions? (What can freight operations do to sustain or assist the existing or new economies?)
Infrastructure:
1. What are the top infrastructure challenges facing DC freight? (Mode and segment specific…)
2. Who “owns” these challenge areas? Who are the best leaders for the solutions? (who are the parties that need to come to the table to solve/address the challenges?)
Thanks!

StoopFest Adams Morgan! Coming your way October 5th!
Adams Morgan Showcases Local Musicians with StoopFest – October 5, 2013
Adams Morgan's deep musical heritage stretches from legendary jazz guitarist Charlie Byrd's appearances at the Showboat (and beyond) to the eclectic range of styles that can be heard here today. StoopFest celebrates local talent by turning the front stoops and porches of several Adams Morgan homes into performance spaces where local musicians will play for the community -- and for free! The sounds will be spread throughout the residential side streets of the neighborhood, making the stunning architecture there the backdrop as you follow your ears from house to house.
On October 5, 2013 from 2 to 6 pm, the stoops and porches of several Adams Morgan residences will serve as temporary stages for local musicians to share their talent (for free) with anyone who happens to be walking by. “Adams Morgan has a rich musical heritage, and many of our residents are working musicians -- StoopFest is a family friendly way to share their talent with the community,” says Kristen Barden of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID. Inspired by a similar effort in Somerville, MA, StoopFest is music to your ears!
If you are interested in sharing your stoop, or your songs, at the First Annual StoopFest, please contact Kristen at
Kbarden@adamsmorganonline.org
or call 202-997-0783. Or just dust off the guitar and practice on your porch that day. This is a joint project with Cultural Tourism DC and will bookend Art4All DC - One City, Four Quadrants, Activated with Arts: A Festival of Festivals taking place September 13 – October 6.
