Adams Morgan Movie Nights concludes on Tuesday with a Family Night screening of
Shrek
|

, Adams Morgan Movie Nights is a can’t-miss event! Adams Morgan Movie Nights will continue through June 27. Movies are free and are shown on the soccer field at Marie Reed School. Movies start approximately 30 minutes after sunset, and we'll have treats from
Insomnia Cookies
again this year so be sure to show up early.
What better way to end your day in Adams Morgan than with a good laugh? This year’s lineup is comedy focused and sure to put a smile on your face.
The movie series will conclude on Tuesday, June 27 with
Shrek. Tuesday will be Family Night and we'll have lots of fun activities for the kids -- including hula hoops, face painting, and balloon animals.

This is our event space where we'll have free and ticketed events all covering the intersection of science and art. Think engineering challenges, science painting, dinosaur crafts, presentations from NASA researchers, science comedy nights, game and trivia nights, and so much more! The Craft Lab schedule for June + July will be posted before the opening.

Adams Morgan Moratorium Hearing
|
The Alcoholic Beverage Cannabis Administration (ABCA) will hold a hearing at
10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2023
, to receive public comment concerning the renewal of the Adams Morgan Moratorium Zone. The Board recently extended the moratorium on an emergency basis. It now seeks comment on a resolution adopted by Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 1C that, if approved by the Board, would increase the number of allowable tavern licenses to 25 to be phased in with no more than 4 new tavern licenses per year. The ANC Resolution is available on ABCA’s website www.abca.dc.gov.

Safer Stronger Hearing on June 27th
|
On June 27th the DC Council will hear testimony regarding Mayor Bowser’s
proposed public safety legislation
. The legislation would accomplish the following:
-
Enhance penalties for violent crimes that victimize or target vulnerable residents with physical or mental impairments as well as expanded protections for transit and for-hire vehicle employees, transit passengers, and people at recreation centers.
-
Increase penalties for illegal gun possession.
-
Make strangulation a type of felony assault (strangulation is a key indicator that domestic violence will become deadly).
-
Strengthen provisions that allow individuals to petition early release to ensure the voices of victims and community receive proper consideration.
-
Provide greater discretion for the Courts to determine who should be held pre-trial, including defendants previously convicted of a violent crime (too often violent offenders are already pending another trail and have been released even after a pattern of multiple arrests. For example, the average homicide suspect has been arrested 11 prior times).
-
Increase the reimbursement for the District’s popular Private Security Camera System Incentive Program which strengthens public safety by increasing the network of cameras available to assist MPD in solving crimes and closing cases (we know when the police have video evidence, the likelihood of closing a case increases exponentially).
-
Proposes collecting DNA earlier in the process for First Degree sexual offenses after the probable cause hearing.
-
Require supervisory agencies, upon request of MPD, provide MPD with location and identification data collected from any detection device necessary in conducting a criminal law enforcement investigation.

💸 Small Medium Business Growth Fund (DMPED)
The Small Medium Business Growth Fund will offer approximately $2 million dollars in total grants aimed to retain, grow and propel innovation in district-based small businesses by supporting large scale capital improvements, critical equipment purchasing, and technological advancements within industries related to green innovation, experiential retail, incubators, immersive entertainment and professional services.

💸 Commercial Property Acquisition Fund (DMPED)
The Commercial Property Acquisition Fund will provide eligible businesses with down payment assistance of up to $750,000 or 25% of the sale price, whichever is less, for the acquisition of commercial property in the District. This year, businesses will need to complete three mandatory sessions in order to apply for the Fund. OPEN now on a rolling basis until funds are expended.
