Adams Morgan Eats in the Streets
!
|
Adams Morgan celebrates its diverse culinary scene at
Adams Morgan Eats in the Streets
on Saturday, July 29 from 1pm-8pm! The outdoor event will take place during the launch of the 2023 Adams Morgan Pedestrian Zone between the 2400-2300 blocks of 18th Street NW. Eats in the Streets will showcase approximately 50 neighborhood restaurants and retailers in streatery spaces along the road closure. Attendees can sample cuisines from across the globe, purchase meals to go, enjoy free entertainment, and wander through an open street closed to vehicular traffic. Participating restaurants will be offering dozens of all-day discounts, a “crowd favorite” menu item for $10 or less, and other fun surprises. Neighborhood retailers will also be onsite selling merchandise, giving out free samples, swag, and more.
Picnic tables will be available for attendees to eat at, enjoy live musical performances throughout the day, and gather with neighbors. Free fitness classes, face painting, a Foamboree for kids, balloon twisting, a chalk art muralist, and other fun activities will be available to event patrons – a schedule can be found online prior to the event. A DC Water misting station and water bottle refill station will be available for the public’s enjoyment and to cool down.
If your Adams Morgan business has not signed up for this event yet, please do so ASAP.
Note: this event is not just for food & beverage businesses.
We will have 10x10 spots available for up to 20 Adams Morgan businesses to set up within the closure zone (first come/first served).
There will be no outside vendors at this event
-- it is strictly for the benefit of Adams Morgan businesses.

Project Update For Your Area-Small Diameter Water Main Replacement Project

Tonight (Wednesday, July 12), beginning at 11:00pm
, our Contractor will be working to tie-in newly installed water service lines to 1801 and 1803 Columbia Road NW. This portion of work will take approximately 8 hours to complete, and there will be scheduled water service outage to customers at the following locations during the work:

All impacted customers at the above listed locations have been notified about this portion of work and scheduled water service outage.

DOES Sends Wage Reporting Notices
A number of DC restaurants have received letters from the Department of Employment Services claiming errors were made in operators’ 2020 Tipped Wage Reports.

At Issue
: In addition to whether or not an error was made, RAMW has a number of other concerns about the notices, including that there is no online portal to report tipped wages and the law requires payroll providers – not operators – to submit reports.

: DOES is calling for
sizable fines
, even when the supposed error is a few dollars.

Emergency Public Safety Bill Approved
DC Council yesterday passed Councilmember Brooke Pinto’s emergency public safety bill by a vote of 12-1. Mayor Muriel Bowser praised the legislation for filling gaps in the system and increasing accountability for violent crimes.

: Yesterday’s emergency law creates a new offense for firing a gun in public, gives courts more discretion to hold for trial defendants previously convicted of violent crimes, allows prosecutors to enter ankle monitor data into trial, and expands popular residential and business security camera rebates.

What’s Not in the Bill
: Stripped from Safer Stronger were proposals to hold for trial youth accused of unarmed offenses and changes to the Incarceration Reduction Act.

Deeper Dive
: Pinto deserves credit for rallying near-unanimous approval from the mayor and an ideological diverse Council around a proposal whose future was uncertain just two weeks ago.

What’s Next
: After Bowser signs the emergency legislation it will be in effect for 90 days. Expect a broader and more comprehensive public safety proposal in the fall.

Adams Morgan Moratorium Hearing is Tomorrow Morning
|
The Alcoholic Beverage Cannabis Administration (ABCA) will hold a hearing at
10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2023
, to receive public comment concerning the renewal of the Adams Morgan Moratorium Zone. The Board recently extended the moratorium on an emergency basis. It now seeks comment on a resolution adopted by Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 1C that, if approved by the Board, would increase the number of allowable tavern licenses to 25 to be phased in with no more than 4 new tavern licenses per year. The ANC Resolution is available on ABCA’s website www.abca.dc.gov.

⚽ Extended Hours for 2023 Women's World Cup ⚽
|
Eligible licensees may operate 24-hours and sell and serve alcohol between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. during the FIFA 2023 Women's World Cup taking place in Australia and New Zealand between July 20 - August 20, 2023.
To participate, licensees
must register
and pay a non-refundable $100 fee by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, July 17.
If approved, licensees will be issued a permit that must be posted next to their alcohol license inside the premises.
Note the following:

Eligible licensees include On-Premises Retailers, Manufacturers with an On-Site Sales and Consumption Permit, and Temporary License holders.
-
Extended hours start the evening of the first day of the tournament—Thursday, July 20—and end at 4:00 a.m. on the last day—Sunday, August 20.
-
Alcohol sales, service, and consumption are NOT permitted between 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Settlement Agreements

Board Orders
apply and may affect eligibility.

Registration in ABCA’s
Extended Holiday Hours Program
and previous World Cup application approvals do not extend to the 2023 Women's World Cup.

💸 Grants for black-owned businesses with alcohol licenses (NAACP & Bacardi)
The NAACP and BACARDI are working together to provide dedicated support to Black-owned businesses in the beverage alcohol service, sales, and hospitality industries. Backing the B.A.R. is a NAACP initiative that is awarding over $350,000 in acceleration grants, education, support, and entrepreneurship solutions for Black-owned bars, restaurants, nightclubs, lounges, liquor stores, and small businesses in the process of applying for a liquor license.
If you are a Black business owner with a liquor license or real liquor license aspirations — and you need financial, educational, or mentorship support, please apply. Grantees will receive a grant of $10,000 dollars. Ideal grant recipients are looking for support in accelerating their business for the future.

Exelon launched a Racial Equity Capital Fund (RECF), in partnership with the Exelon Foundation, to expand access to capital to minority businesses so they can create more jobs, grow their companies, and reinvest in their neighborhoods and communities. The fund builds on Exelon’s longstanding history of supporting the underserved and under-resourced communities and further delivers on Exelon's commitment to drive economic equity and opportunity for Exelon's communities.
The capital fund is part of Exelon’s ongoing, extensive efforts to promote equity and economic opportunity in the diverse communities served by the six Exelon utilities, which include Atlantic City Electric (ACE), BGE, ComEd, Delmarva Power (DPL), PECO and Pepco. 💸 Commercial Property Acquisition Fund (DMPED)
The Commercial Property Acquisition Fund will provide eligible businesses with down payment assistance of up to $750,000 or 25% of the sale price, whichever is less, for the acquisition of commercial property in the District.
