AMPBID Board Meeting - February 12 at 5 PM

The next meeting of the AMPBID Board of Directors is February 12th at 5 pm at the MPD Third District Headquarters - 1620 V Street, NW in the Snyder Conference room on the first floor.

This Tuesday we will be joined by Jennifer Steingasser, AICP, Deputy Director of the Development Review and Historic Preservation department in the DC Office of Planning www.planning.dc.gov who will give us an overview of the proposed changes to the zoning laws in DC.

As many of you know, the Office of Planning has been working on a multi-year update to the zoning code to reflect the needs of a 21st Century DC. The last major revision of the code was completed in 1958 and the  Comprehensive Plan calls for "substantial revision and reorganization" of the zoning code. Revisions are also needed to implement the Comprehensive Plan and its policy objectives.

Board members: Please be on time so we can begin the presentation and Q&A promptly and conclude the meeting by 7 pm. Please call or email Kristen at 202-997-0783 or kbarden@adamsmorganonline.org if you are unable to attend. Otherwise we will assume you will be there. Thanks.

Meeting materials will be sent to board members shortly.

Dances Class in Adams Morgan

Despite the "for rent" sign in the window of Cafe Arte at 1824 Columbia Road NW, they aren't closed. Originally a small cafe with a cultural focus, they have moved to a larger space and integrated their concept into an established restaurant.

Cafe Arte is a unique experience that invites each patron to engage in the arts: visual, literary, and performing. Now on the second floor of El Rincon Espanol restaurant, we offer a menu, full bar, coffees, teas and desserts, along with opportunities to explore a variety of artistic pursuits.

Our dance classes startup again the week of Monday, February 4th, and include salsa, bachata, tango, zumba, casino and latin mix workshops. Find the full schedule here: http://www.cafeartedc.com/schedule/ Email or call with questions: info@cafeartedc.com or 202-557-4203.

Circulator Bus Winter/Early Spring 2013 Marketing Campaign

DC Circulator is going to be launching a new campaign this Winter/Early Spring to increase ridership and exposure of the Circulator buses and brand through local business outreach.

They are looking for businesses along each of the 5 routes who are willing to place a poster in their window and distribute FREE ride coupons to patrons who walk in and ask for a FREE ride coupon.

In return for the businesses' support, each business will be identified on social media posts on both Facebook and Twitter as places to get FREE ride coupons.

The poster and coupon will be designed in line with the current interior theme of: RIDE. EXPLORE.CONNECT. Web banners matching the coupons and posters will also be displayed on the Circulator and goDCgo websites.

There will be more information coming out soon on how to participate in this marketing campaign but if you would like to participate, please email Kristen at kbarden@adamsmorganonline.org . Thanks.

Putting together a weekend package in Adams Morgan for a charity auction

A friend of Adams Morgan in Virginia Beach, VA is putting together a weekend package for a family or couple to experience and get to know Adams Morgan.  This package will be auctioned off at a live auction event at Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School.

The school is a college preparatory high school striving for excellence both in academic and spiritual development.  Students come primarily from the Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Chesapeake areas although they typically have approximately 10 foreign exchange students per year from as far away as Korea. Bishop Sullivan currently has 425 students and provided scholarship assistance to 83 students in 2012.

Because tuition covers only 78% of the cost of educating each child, they hold a Grand Auction and ask our local community, and extended communities to help us make up the difference.

On March 2, 2013, Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School will hold its annual Grand Auction, "A Bishop Sullivan CHS Celebration." Sponsors and donors are acknowledged in their Crusader publication which is mailed to over 10,000 households. All donations are tax deductible to the extent permissible by law.
They alre ady have a 2night stay-package from Adam's Inn on Lanier and are looking for donations or discounted items (they will pay for some things) to round out the weekend package - whatever might make an exciting package for a weekend of fun for either a family or a couple.
T he following items would be great:
-gift certificates to area restaurants
-tickets to area attractions & entertainment
-gift certificates for wine tasting
-any other fun ideas!
If you would like to contribute to this, please contact Kristen at 202-997-0783 or kbarden@adamsmorganonline.org .

Ask Me About DC event - February 21, 2013

We are again going to participate in the annual "Ask Me About DC" event organized by Destination DC on Capitol Hill.

The day provides Members of Congress and House and Senate staff an opportunity to learn about attractions, entertainment and dining options in Washington, DC to support the needs of their constituents. The majority of the attendees are staffers and interns. There are more than 800 people who attend this event. Many of them have just moved to DC. This is a terrific opportunity to get your marketing materials in the hands of brand new DC residents.

We collect items from ALL ADAMS MORGAN BUSINESSES to distribute in a bag to attendees.

SOOO here is what we need from you before February 15th:

* Menus

* Business cards

* Flyers

* Discount coupons

* Disposable bags - we need close to 800 of them

* Give away items with your logo/name on them that would catch their attention

* Anything else you would like us to give to folks....

Please also consider doing a raffle of something. Having some kind of raffle at our table will encourage people to visit and encourage them to linger a bit longer. Clarence Myers will be collecting these items so please coordinate with him.  Clarence can be reached at 202-536-9515.

Thanks!

GWHCC Annual Business Expo - April 2, 2013

Can you believe that the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's (GWHCC) 4th Annual Business Expo is just around the corner?

GWHCC would like to invite Adams Morgan businesses to join them again at the Business Expo on April 2, 2013. www.gwhcc.org

The Adams Morgan Partnership BID sponsored two booths that were shared by 5 businesses at last year's EXPO (the 6th business was not able to go at the last minute) and showcased their businesses and built connections with participating government agencies, corporations, embassies, non-profits, small businesses, and individuals in the local Hispanic business community. This year GWHCC is anticipating over 1,300 attendees and 110 exhibitors.

Spaces are filling up fast so we would like to know by FEBRUARY 8TH if you would like to participate again this year. We will pay for shared booths for 3 businesses per booth for up to 12 businesses or 4 booths.

If you would like to take advantage of this great opportunity feel free to contact Kristen at 202-997-0783 or kbarden@adamsmorganonline.org .
