1) Important update on 18th Street Streetscape Construction and PEPCO work - Saturday hours this weekend!

1)      The construction team is going to again have Saturday hours THIS SATURDAY from 7 am to 3:30 PM on March 26th, 2011, weather permitting.

2)      The work on Saturday will be limited to work behind the jersey barriers at Florida and 18th Street.
3)      Tree removal along 18th Street from Florida Ave to Wyoming, east side, was scheduled for March 24th but may carry over by a day or two, again weather permitting. This represents a significant concession as the original schedule called for the entire east side from Florida to Columbia be removed.  The reasoning is cost, mobilizing a crew one time is cheaper than in phases.  The contractor has agreed to removal in blocks, proceeding the construction work, at this time.

PEPCO
For the weeks of March 28, 2011 through April 9, 2011, Pepco crews will be working from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.  At 4:00 p.m. Pepco will have covered all work and removed all construction equipment from the street.

This utility work will take place in the following areas:

• West side of 2100 Block of 18th Street, NW (Cable Dept.)

• West side of 2200 Block of 18th Street, NW, between Wyoming Street and Belmont Street, NW (Conduit & Cable Dept.)

• West side of 2400 Block of 18th Street, NW, between Belmont Road and Columbia Road, NW

• West side of 2500 Block of 18th Street, NW (Conduit Dept.)

Where necessary, PEPCO will have No Parking signs from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.


2) National Marathon comes through Adams Morgan on Saturday morning March 26th

The 6th Annual SunTrust National Marathon and CareFirst BlueCross Blue Shield Half Marathon are Saturday March 26th starting at 7 AM.
Columbia Road from Connecticut Avenue to 16th Street will be closed to traffic from 7:25 AM to about 9:10 AM to let the runners through.

There will be a Community Spirit Station at the SunTrust Bank Plaza at 18 th and Columbia Road NW from 7 am to 9 am.  Come cheer on the runners at SunTrust Plaza!

3) Very Cherry AdMo PopUp Shop - opens March 27th and runs through April 16

The Adams Morgan Partnership BID is pleased to be supporting Adams Morgan Main Street's Spring partnership with the National Cherry Blossom Festival.  This colorful, multicultural neighborhood business district hosts performance art, local retail, original art, and crafts all under one roof at 2421 18th St NW.

The “Very Cherry AdMo Pop Up Shop ” is located in the heart of Adams Morgan at 2421 18th Street, NW. It is a temporary urban shop and exhibit venue where both visitors and locals can find unique items. This colorful, multicultural neighborhood business district hosts original art, and crafts from March 27 – April 16 for 21 consecutive days & eves; including 4 weekends.

Join us this SUNDAY March 27th at 3 PM for a ribbon cutting. Opening reception will be Sunday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Highlights include: a Shishi Dog and Kabuki Dance Troupe, origami and decorative Kimonos during the reception.
Patrons can shop numerous unique items for family, friends, colleagues and kids for everything from wearable art, accessories, jewelry, to fine art, paintings, photography and sculpture. According to Janet Lugo-Tafur, Executive Director, “We are proud of the focus on nearby neighborhood and local DC artisans, and that everything is made directly by the artist.” The retail show/shop will rotate as different themes, artisans and activities are highlighted, as well as related local businesses.

5) DDOT to present 10-Year Plan for Circulator Bus

DDOT  will present 10-year transit development plan for DC Circulator with recommended changes to existing service and proposed corridors for future service on Thursday, March 31, 2011.

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will host a public meeting on Thursday, March 31 to present a comprehensive Transit Development Plan for the DC Circulator. The plan will help guide the growth of the DC Circulator over the next ten years.

The Capitol Hilton Hotel is in close proximity to the Farragut North Metro Station on the Red Line and the Farragut West and McPherson Square Metro Stations on the Blue/Orange Lines.  It’s also accessible from several bus lines.

Operations data and anticipated development patterns in the District were used to develop the long-term plan for the Circulator system.  Based on this analysis, DDOT developed recommendations for changes to existing service and 11 corridors for potential expansion in the future.

Highlights of the Transit Development Plan include:

·         Strategic goals and objectives that will guide the development of the Circulator system, including performance measures and targets;

·         Operational profiles of the six current DC Circulator routes;

·         Preview profiles of the 11 corridors recommended for Circulator service development through 2020;

· Proposed service changes including extended evening and weekend hours on Union Station – Navy Yard route and reduced late-night weekend hours on Woodley Park – Adams Morgan – McPherson Square Metro route; and

·         A proposed framework for governance and public outreach.

DDOT used a participatory public feedback process, to develop the plan. As part of that process, DDOT will be presenting the recommendations contained in the plan.

The draft plan is now posted on the DDOT and Circulator websites.

The DC Circulator is a partnership among DDOT, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), and DC Surface Transit, Inc.  Since its launch in 2005, the DC Circulator has grown substantially, now operating 49 buses on six routes and carrying nearly five million passengers a year. The DC Circulator supplements Metro’s bus and rail service and connects many of the District’s neighborhoods and activity centers.
