Planning Meeting scheduled for today for Operation Adams Morgan Part II - postponed until further notice

MPD Captain Aubrey Mongal notified us this morning that the meeting planned for TODAY MAY 2 at 4 pm about Operation Adams Morgan Part II has been postponed. No additional information is available at this time. The meeting will be rescheduled. The goal of this meeting is to set the overall vision and goals for each and every entity that will be needed to build on the success of last year.

Update on 18th Street Streetscape Construction - Paving schedule and PEPCO outage on Monday night into Tuesday morning

We learned this morning that final paving of 18th Street south of Belmont Road will begin tomorrow May 3rd, weather permitting, and will last 2-3 days.

ALSO PEPCO has notified us that there will be a service interruption on Monday night May 7th beginning at 11 PM through Tuesday morning May 8th at 7 AM.

The affected addresses include all of the 2300 block of 18th Street, NW and 1800 Belmont Road, NW.This is to complete work at 18th and Kalorama Road that requires lowering PEPCO cables in the new manholes.

Customers were notified earlier this week by PEPCO that the outage would be on Sunday night. We have worked with PEPCO and DDOT to move the outage to Monday night when fewer businesses are open and there is less disruption to business activity. PEPCO will begin renotification of all their affected customers of the date change also.

Reminder: Bike to Work Day - May 18th - Adams Morgan Pit Stop

On Friday May 18, 2012 Commuter Connections and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) - located on Columbia Road in Adams Morgan invite you to join over 10,000 area commuters for a celebration of bicycling as a clean, fun and healthy way to get to work.

Bike to Work Day is a free event for both new and experienced bicycle commuters throughout the Washington metropolitan region. Those who register and attend one of 58 regional pit stops will receive a free Bike to Work Day T-Shirt*, food, drinks, and a chance at winning bicycles or other great raffle prizes. (*T-Shirt supplies are limited to first 11,000 who register). http://www.biketoworkmetrodc.org/

We will be hosting an Adams Morgan Pit Stop again this year.

Here are the details:

Location: Triangle Park (informally called Unity Park)
Address: Columbia Road/Champlain Street and Euclid Street, NW

Pit Stop Time: 7:00am to 9:30am

We will have a DJ spinning tunes from 7:30 to 9:30 to pump up the cyclists and free coffee, pastries and fruit from Tryst.

We will also have donations from ALL NATURAL BODYARMOR® SuperDrink™, an antioxidant and nutrient rich refreshment beverage formulated to support the body’s immune system.  Each exotic fruit & tea flavor beverage is loaded with polyphenols, Vitamins A, B complex, C & E as well as electrolytes and amino acids available in 6 exotic fruit flavors.

Some big conventions coming to DC and new resources for restaurants available

First a quick reminder about some upcoming events at the Walter Washington Convention Center that will bring about 37,000 people to DC.

Restaurants, you should be particularly interested in all the "foodies" in town for the first event on the list. Here are the big ones:

1) International Fancy Food Convention: June 17-19th (26,000 people)

2) University of Phoenix Commencement Ceremony: June 9th (10,000 people)

3) Radio Television Correspondence Association Dinner: June 8th (1,500 people)

*Also noteworthy is the DC Jazzfest which will run from June 1st-June 10th.
