Date Nights in Adams Morgan

The inaugural edition of Adams Morgan Date Nights last year in February and March was a huge success, so we want to to make it even bigger and better this year! We had nearly 1,000 participants in 2019 enter to win a free date and receive discounts around the neighborhood. If your business would like to participate, please contact Brian Barrie (202-536-9515) for more information. Take a look at the lineup from last year for a better idea of what was offered and why so many people entered to win. Participating businesses will benefit from additional marketing and social media postings as we promote the event through our social media channels and paid advertising.

Valentine's Day Window Contest:

$2,000 for the winning business!

This year the Adams Morgan Partnership and The Line Hotel are sponsoring a Valentine's Day retail window decorating contest. All Adams Morgan businesses with sidewalk-facing windows in the business district are eligible to participate.

Businesses are encouraged to begin decorating their windows as soon as possible. Judging will take place on or around February 12. Winners will be announced on Valentines Day (February 14).

Judging will be based on originality, use of space, overall creativity, and other factors as determined by the judges.

Judging will be conducted by a panel consisting of residents and/or elected officials. None of the judges will have any direct affiliation with participating businesses or be members of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID. The community will also be able to vote on their favorites through an online poll on our website.

Prizes: 1st Place $2,000; 2nd Place $1,500; 3rd Place: $500

To participate in the contest, businesses must register with Brian Barrie (202-536-9515). A list of all participating businesses will be published on our website. More details will be available soon and flyers will be distributed throughout the neighborhood.

Holiday Tree and Greenery disposal

Residents in DPW-serviced households are asked to call 311 to make an appointment to schedule their tree and greenery collection for composting between December 27 - January 31. Trees and Greenery should be placed in front of residents’ homes or taken to the drop off locations where they will be composted and made available to residents at no charge. Please remove all ornaments and lights and do not place trees and greenery in bags.

If residents do not wish to participate in composting their holiday trees and greenery they can also be placed where your trash is normally collected. They will be picked up along with your trash as space in our trucks permits.

Residents of multi-unit buildings not serviced by DPW are responsible for their own tree disposal. Contact building management for details.

Colonial Garage (2421 18th St.) will now allow you to reserve parking in their garage.

In addition, participating Adams Morgan businesses can validate your parking so you will only pay $8 for up to 4 hours parking (until 5pm). All Adams Morgan businesses are able to participate in the validation program, but not all do, so please check with the business before you park to be sure. Businesses that want to participate can find more information on the program here .

Important: Survey for Nightlife Businesses

The Mayor’s Office on Nightlife and Culture is conducting a study on the Economic Impact of DC Nightlife. This is the first time a study of this scope has been undertaken. Better defining the scale and impact of DC’s night time economy will help tell a compelling story of the value these businesses bring in terms of jobs, tax revenues and vibrancy. It will also help city stakeholders better-align resources to manage its impact in more constructive and effective ways. In addition to analyzing publicly available data, researchers are asking members of the restaurant, bar, club, theater and gallery communities to complete this survey .

The survey will only take 5 or 10 minutes to fill out. It is anonymous and when it comes to your business operations only asks you to estimate the percentage of your workforce employed and revenues generated after 5PM and after 10PM. In addition, it asks you to share feedback that will help the Mayors Office of Nightlife and Culture develop a strategic plan aligned to cross cutting needs within the city. Your input on this will be invaluable in terms of helping this new agency better serve you.

The timeframe for this study is very short -- the deadline is Tuesday, January 20 . Your voice and input is incredibly important. Please take a few moments to fill it out .

DC's New Building Energy Performance Standard

DC's new Building Energy Performance Standard goes into effect on January 1, 2021.

This is a significant new law in which buildings over 50,000 square feet must meet a minimum threshold of energy performance or enter a five-year compliance period in which they reduce their energy usage 20% (or follow other compliance paths). Over the next 5 years, the square footage threshold will go down to 10,000 sq. ft., so this will eventually affect thousands of buildings in DC, including a large number in Adams Morgan.
