Reminder: AMPBID Reauthorization Hearing - August 31 at 5 PM

The public hearing on the Adams Morgan Partnership BID recertification will be August 31, 2011 at 5:00 pm. The meeting room is #123 in the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW. Participants will need photo identification to enter the building. The hearing is hosted by the Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) on behalf of DC Mayor Vincent Gray.

To sign up to testify, please contact Lincoln Lashley at DSLBD at Lincoln.lashley@dc.gov . All written testimony should be submitted to Lincoln Lashley at: Lincoln.lashley@dc.gov along with the following information, no later than 12:00 noon on Monday, August 22, 2011: (a) the name of the person wishing to testify; (2) his/her company or affiliation; (c) his/her status as a commercial property owner, tenant, representative of an nonexempt property, resident, or private citizen; and (d) a phone number where he/she can be reached. Individuals presenting testimony are requested to bring ten copies of their testimony to the hearing.

Individuals will be limited to 5 minutes of oral testimony and organizations will be limited to 10 minutes of oral testimony. Those who do not wish to testify at the hearing, but wish to present written comments on the application must submit their comments to Gladys Kamau, Department of Small and Local Business Development, 441 4th Street, NW, Suite 970N, Washington, DC 20001, no later than 12:00 noon on Monday, August 22, 2011.

The final recertification package is available for review after August 22, 2011 between 9:30 and 6 pm at the AMPBID offices at 1804 Belmont Road, NW.  DSLBD will also make the final application available to the public during weekday normal business hours after August 22nd, 2011 at 441 4th Street, NW, Suite 970N, Washington, DC 20001.

AMPBID Marketing Committee meeting - August 18th @2PM

The AMPBID Marketing Committee will meet on Thursday, August 18th at 2 PM at 1802 Belmont Road, NW in the AMPBID offices (moved the date to accomodate schedules). Please let Kristen know if you are coming so we are sure to have enough room to accommodate everyone. New faces and new ideas are always welcome.

Under old business is: putting finishing touches on new bus shelter posters, the new website, construction focused ads in the NW Current (six months – once a month) about cheap parking and the Circulator Bus . Under new business, we'll talk about the upcoming Adams Morgan Day festival and a new marketing initiative with the City Paper for Crafty Bastards Festival in October.

DC Water - Shut Down - August 15th at midnight along south side of Columbia Road

This week DC Water and the AMPBID distributed flyers and hanging tags about a scheduled water shut off - Monday night August 15th beginning at 12 midnight into Tuesday morning August 16th at 6:00 am.

DC Water would like to perform a shut down to perform work in the: 1700 and 1600 blocks of Columbia Road on the SOUTH SIDE ONLY between McDonald's on 18th Street and the Festival Center on Mozart Place, NW.

They anticipate the water shut down to last for approximately 6 hours. All affected will receive notification of the exact amount of time prior to the test down being performed.

Once the shut has been deemed successful the water main will be recharged immediately after.

Window Preservation Guide for Property Owners in Historic Districts

The Historic Preservation Office (HPO) has released a draft guide book for the repair and replacement of windows on historic property. The guide book provides in depth technical and aesthetic information for property owners, and outlines the design and preservation principles applied in the review of this type of work to ensure that changes are compatible with the character of historic property. The guide book also discusses the environmental and sustainability implications of window repair and replacement, and provides property owners with links to further information and a directory of contractors that specialize in this type of work.

"Window Repair and Replacement: Preservation and Design Guidelines" will be presented to the DC Historic Preservation Review (HPRB) at its next public meeting on September 22, 2011. The draft guideline is posted on the Historic Preservation Office website. Comments on the draft for the HPRB's consideration may be submitted to Steve Callcott at steve.callcott@dc.gov or presented in person at the September HPRB meeting.
