Willie's Brew & Que, one of DC's newest barbecue restaurant and sports bar, focuses on the art of low and slow barbecue cooking. Located in the Capitol Riverfront, Willie's features a wide variety of barbecue items with influences from across the country. The restaurant's focus is making simple food delicious, and pairing it with great drinks and a lively sports atmosphere.

This weekend the Capitol Riverfront is packed with patriotic activities, including baseball, fireworks, fishing, picnicking in the parks, and themed signature events. Celebrate the holiday Capitol Riverfront style!

Thursday, July 2: Capitol Riverfront Outdoor Movies continue with Independence Day 
in the northern block of Canal Park at 8:30 pm. Bring your blanket as early as 7:00 pm to enjoy the Popped! Republic gourmet popcorn truck, plenty of neighborhood options for your picnic basketand your favorite stars beneath our stars. Catch a good Zumba workout in Yards Park with VIDA Fitness at 7:00 pm before the movie begins!

Friday, July 3: Start the weekend off at a High Energy Fitness Class with DCBFIT at 6:30 am in Canal Park. Bring the family to free Friday Night Fishing with Anacostia Riverkeeper and Earth Conservation Corps at Diamond Teague Park from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Enjoy Journey tribute band Almost Journey at the Friday Night Concert from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Concert-goers are encouraged to arrive early with their picnic dinners, blankets, and take out meals from Capitol Riverfront restaurants to enjoy a free evening of music! The Washington Nationals take on the San Francisco Giants at 6:05 pm. Complimentary Freedom Fireworks will occur after the game and can also be viewed from Yards Park.

Saturday, July 4:  Bootcamp with DCBFIT is cancelled for the holiday, but there's plenty of picnicking to be had in Canal Park and Yards Park. Nationals vs. Giants at 11:05 am.

Sunday, July 5: Nationals vs. Giants at 8:08 pm.

BanfieldBanfield Pet Hospital Now Open
The latest Capitol Riverfront opening is something to bark about! Banfield Pet Hospital is now open at 1212 4th Street, SE, and is ready to be your partner in pet care.

Banfield offers a wide variety of health services including comprehensive preventive care, veterinary surgery and dentistry. To celebrate being a part of this great community, Banfield has planned several Grand Opening activities on July 25th and 26th. YogaSpecial Edition Vinyasa Yoga with VIDA, Reebok, & Sweetgreen July 21 
On Tuesday, July 21st, VIDA Fitness at The Yards, Reebok and Sweetgreen will host a special edition of yoga with VIDA teacher, Chris Parkison.

The yoga class will take place at its normal time, 7:00 pm, in Yards Park. Reebok will raffle prizes and give out swag bags to all participants; and Sweetgreen will nourish all yogis and yoginis with post-class salads for dinner.

VanNessVan Ness School Renovations Now Underway 
The renovations at Van Ness Elementary School in the Capitol Riverfront are now well underway!

Located at 1150 5th Street, SE, Van Ness Elementary will open fall 2015 with two 16-seat preschool classes, two 20-seat pre-kindergarten classes and two 22-seat kindergarten classes.

The school will introduce 1st grade in the 2016-2017 school year, and the school will grow each year until 5th grade has been reached.

TunnelVirginia Avenue, SE Lane Closures 
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has announced that two areas of Virginia Avenue, SE, in Ward 6, will be impacted by lane or street closures due to the CSX Virginia Avenue Tunnel project. 

The impacted areas are: Virginia Avenue, SE from 2nd Street to 3rd Street, SE, which will be closed to all traffic for the duration of the project (up to 42 months); and two of the four eastbound two lanes of Virginia Avenue, SE between 5th and 7th streets, SE, which will be closed Monday through Friday between 9:30 am and 3:30 pm for approximately three weeks. The latter closure is to allow for the relocation and installation of temporary streetlights.

Traffic signs are in place to guide drivers around the Virginia Avenue closure at 2nd Street, SE. The recommended alternative route for eastbound travel is east on I Street, south on 4th Street, east on K Street, North on 5th Street, and then east on Virginia Avenue. The detour will be in place until Virginia Avenue is reopened between 2nd and 3rd Streets, SE.

Motorists should anticipate moderate to heavy delays and are advised to plan for additional travel time or use alternative routes to bypass the construction area. Drivers, pedestrians and cyclists are urged to stay alert and to use caution and follow signs and signals when traveling around and through the work zone.
